Our School Wellbeing in Senior School

At ŷƵ Girls’ we care as much about the developing character of each student as we do about their academic achievement.

Years 7 to 9

The early-to-middle teenage years are an exciting time of exploration and character development, yet they can also be fraught with social and emotional challenges. To enable our students to develop a sense of belonging and an understanding of respectful relationships, ŷƵ Girls' offers a comprehensive approach to wellbeing in Years 7 to 9, centred on the mentoring role of the Tutor and small Tutorial groups.

Meanwhile, the Outdoor Education program that runs throughout Years 7 to 9 connects students to the natural environment, builds strong connections within Year Level groups and helps to develop confidence and resilience in individuals.

Year 10

In Year 10, students are beginning to plan for life beyond school. At ŷƵ Girls' we offer opportunities for students to experience real-world activities with a focus on entrepreneurship, while Work Experience, Driver Training and Careers Week opportunities help students to begin planning future pathways.

Students prepare for the VCE with induction sessions, while mindfulness and resilience training is provided by the School's Counselling Team. Meanwhile, students are encouraged to take on leadership opportunities and training, such as the Peer Support and School Ambassador programs.

Year 11

In Year 11, the key elements of the wellbeing program include:

  • a two-day conference at the end of Term 1 with a focus on support and bonding
  • exercises focussing on managing stress, developing resilience and study skills training
  • leadership activities, including preparing for School Leader nominations
  • Sessions on alcohol, drugs, social media and body image.
Year 12

In Year 12, we aim to support students academically, while encouraging their wellbeing during this intense period. Strategies include:

  • a two-day retreat at the end of Term 1, which focuses on strengthening relationships and a sense of community
  • support from the Careers Counsellor regarding Tertiary submissions, interview skills and university processes
  • Support by the School's Counselling Team and sessions of developing study/life balance and mental wellness
  • Sessions on sexual health and relationships.
